Lunar New Year 2025

Celebrate the auspicious Year of the Snake this Lunar New Year at Paddy's Markets Haymarket and Flemington. Witness this special tradition, as the THQ Cabra performers roam around our markets seeking offerings from our Paddy's traders to kick off an auspicious Year of the Snake.

During the Lunar New Year celebrations, lion dance troupes in most Asian countries would visit homes and businesses to perform a tradition known as "cai qing". Loosely translated to "plucking the greens", the lion will pluck auspicious green lettuce or similar leafy veggies with a money-filled red packet hung or tied to a pole offered by the home or business owner. The lion would then shred the greens and "spit" them back to the owner to shower blessings of prosperity.

It is a special tradition that we embrace here at Paddy's for our community of patrons who celebrate the Lunar New Year.
