Paddy's x State Library of NSW Exhibition
Discover historic and contemporary images capturing the enduring spirit of Paddy’s Markets Haymarket, as we present the touring exhibit from the State Library of NSW collection.
Paddy’s Markets Haymarket has always been at the heart of Sydney’s Chinatown — a place full of colour, culture, and community. In August 2024, State Library NSW photographers Bruce York and Joy Mei En Lai captured the buzz of the markets and the stallholders who bring it to life, right in the midst of its exciting redevelopment.
Paired with historic images from the Library’s collection, these new photographs celebrate the spirit of Paddy’s — a market that continues to evolve, yet always endures as a Sydney icon.
In addition to the State Library contemporary photo exhibit, there are also nine permanent mural photo installations of Paddy’s from the 1910s–1950s located around the market. Celebrate Paddy’s heritage as a cultural landmark with us.
