Discover historic and contemporary images capturing the enduring spirit of Paddy’s Markets Haymarket.
Paddy’s Markets Haymarket has always been at the heart of Sydney’s Chinatown — a place full of colour, culture, and community. In August 2024, Library photographers Bruce York and Joy Mei En Lai captured the buzz of the markets and the stallholders who bring it to life, right in the midst of its exciting redevelopment.
Paired with historic images from the Library’s collection, these new photographs celebrate the spirit of Paddy’s — a market that continues to evolve, yet always endures as a Sydney icon.
